"Tis Hazari Firing: Three Lawyers Accused in Brawl and Shootout Remanded to 4-Day Police Custody"
In the high-profile case of the Tis Hazari District Court brawl and shootout, a Delhi court has ordered the remand of three accused lawyers to police custody for four days. The lawyers, namely Aman Singh, Ravi Gupta, and Sachin Sangwan, were arrested following the incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 5. Metropolitan Magistrate Chatinder Singh issued the order on Thursday, emphasizing that no torture should be inflicted upon the accused during their custody. The court further directed the investigating agency to ensure compliance with the guidelines of the Hon'ble Apex Court and instructed the medical examination of the accused in accordance with the rules. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 10.
Notably, advocate Manish Sharma, the senior vice-president of the Delhi Bar Association, had his license suspended by the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) due to his alleged involvement in the incident. The clash between two groups of lawyers, including office bearers of the bar association, escalated to the point where verbal abuses were exchanged and gunshots were fired into the air. A viral video of the incident prompted the BCD to take suo motu cognizance of the matter.
