On Friday, the Supreme Court heard a special leave petition filed by victims of the 2008 Jaipur serial bomb blasts, which challenged the Rajasthan High Court's judgment acquitting four people who were previously convicted to death by the trial court. The victims sought permission to file the petition, and the bench comprising Justices AS Oka and Rajesh Bindal allowed the application and set a hearing date for next week. The court also considered the State's special leave petition during the hearing. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the victims, argued that the accused persons were still in jail, to which the bench responded by stating that this was not permissible under the law. The court will take up the matter again on May 17 to consider the aspect of a stay. The High Court had acquitted the accused based on serious lapses in the investigation and evidence.
