The Supreme Court of India rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) on Thursday that had claimed discrepancies in the procurement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) by the Election Commission of India (ECI). According to the petitioner's counsel, the ECI had falsely claimed to have purchased the EVMs. However, the Court dismissed the petition, stating that the cost of elections is high but necessary for democracy, and that the issue of ECI's EVM procurement did not fall under the scope of Article 32.
