On Friday, the Supreme Court declined a petition presented in the interest of the public, which sought to reestablish a collaborative judicial committee between India and Pakistan. The purpose of this committee was to address conflicts arising from the apprehension of fishermen who stray into each other's territorial waters. The case was titled "Veljibhai Masani and ors vs Union of India and ors."
The bench, comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, emphasized that these issues fall within the realm of politics. Furthermore, the Court clarified that it lacks the authority to issue directives to the Pakistani government. The bench raised pertinent questions, such as whether this matter falls under the purview of an Article 32 petition, and how India and Pakistan intend to resolve the fishermen's predicament. It pointedly remarked, "Can we issue directions to Pakistan? Sorry."
The bench firmly asserted that political matters necessitate political resolutions, underscoring that it is the responsibility of the respective governments to address the matter. The Court firmly conveyed its stance: "Ask the government to solve this, we will not get into it."
Hence, the PIL, lodged by Veljibhai Masani, was consequently dismissed by the Supreme Court.
