Shiv Sena's prominent leader and Member of Parliament, Sanjay Raut, has taken legal action by filing a criminal defamation complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya for his defamatory tweets targeting Raut. Raut alleges that since 2022, Somaiya has consistently used his Twitter account to spread baseless and defamatory statements against him.
Expressing his shock and dismay, Raut highlights that Somaiya's tweets contain false and damaging claims, which aim to tarnish his reputation in society. Raut emphasizes that these defamatory statements, still accessible on Somaiya's Twitter page, have the intention to undermine the goodwill he has earned through years of hard work.
Raut further accuses Somaiya of engaging in character assassination without any supporting evidence, labeling his statements as malicious and irresponsible. In his complaint, Raut appeals to the Magistrate at Mulund, Mumbai, urging them to take cognizance of the offenses under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Raut seeks the summoning of Somaiya as an accused in the case, denouncing the unwarranted attacks on his character.
