Advocate Pardhuman Garg, in a petition filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, referred to a Supreme Court judgment in the case of Bar Council of India Vs. Bonnie Foi Law College and others, 2023 LiveLaw (SC) 96. The judgment, delivered by a five-judge bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, A.S. Oka, Vikram Nath, and J.K. Maheshwari, had directed the Bar Council of India to ensure that enrollment fees do not become oppressive for young students joining the Bar. The bench had also noted that the varying fees charged by different State Bar Councils required the attention of the Bar Council of India to ensure a uniform pattern of fee collection.
