"Punjab and Haryana High Court Intervenes, Puts a Stop to Demolition Drive Amidst Communal Unrest in Nuh, Haryana
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the ongoing turmoil in the Nuh district of Haryana, where communal clashes recently erupted, leading to a violent confrontation. A Bench, led by Justice GS Sandhawalia, initiated this action.
Reports reveal that the violence erupted on the evening of July 31 in Nuh district when a mob attacked a VHP procession, driven by rumors of the participation of cow vigilante Monu Manesar in the event.
According to NDTV, the clashes resulted in the tragic death of at least five individuals, with over 70 people, including police personnel, sustaining injuries. The authorities have responded by filing approximately 40 cases and apprehending more than 80 individuals in connection to the communal violence.
Subsequently, a demolition drive was carried out by local administration in Nuh district, leading to the removal of over 700 structures over a span of four days, as reported by HT.
Officials have clarified that the demolished structures encompassed residences, shops, and unauthorized constructions situated on government property. These structures were allegedly utilized by individuals suspected to be involved in the communal clashes.
The Superintendent of Police has confirmed the filing of 56 First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the communal violence, resulting in the arrest of 147 individuals thus far."
