"Adipurush Producers Move Supreme Court, Contest Allahabad High Court's Order for Personal Appearance in Vulgar Depiction Controversy"
The producers of the highly anticipated film Adipurush took their legal battle to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, challenging the Allahabad High Court's order that required their personal presence before the High Court bench. The matter was treated with utmost urgency, and Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud's bench instructed the lawyer to mention the case the following day.
The dispute stems from an order issued by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on June 30, in response to public interest litigation (PIL) petitions demanding a ban on the film. Justices Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Shree Prakash Singh, comprising the bench, criticized the filmmakers for their alleged shameful and vulgar portrayal of certain characters in Adipurush.
Consequently, director Om Raut, producer Bhushan Kumar, and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir were directed to appear before the Court on July 27. The court further demanded personal affidavits from them, explaining their intentions and genuineness. Additionally, the Court ordered the formation of an expert committee to re-evaluate the film's adherence to the epic Ramayana, which serves as its primary source of inspiration.
