Mumbai Lawyer Mursalin Shaikh Faces Disciplinary Proceedings by Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa for Frivolous PIL Against Bombay HC Judge"
The Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa has taken suo motu action against advocate Mursalin Shaikh for filing a baseless PIL against Justice Revati Mohite Dere of the Bombay High Court. The BCMG has constituted a three-member disciplinary committee to investigate the matter as per Section 35 of the Advocates Act.
In the PIL, Shaikh had made several allegations against Justice Dere and sought action against her. However, the BCMG has condemned such frivolous filings and stated that Shaikh, being a lawyer, should have been aware of the Judges Protection Act and the rules for filing PILs.
The BCMG has strongly condemned the act of making baseless and cantankerous allegations that tarnish the image of the judiciary and the sitting judge. It has also criticized the trend of making such allegations viral on social media to gain cheap and adverse publicity.
Justice Revati Mohite Dere was a government pleader at the principal bench of the Bombay High Court before being elevated as an additional judge in 2013. She became a permanent judge in March 2016
