"Mumbai Court Denies Anticipatory Bail to Two Men Accused of Harassment: Alleged Repeated Advances and Lewd Comments on Female Colleagues"
In a recent development, a Mumbai court rejected the plea for anticipatory bail filed by two men who were booked for outraging the modesty of women. The individuals, identified as sales managers in a real estate company, allegedly made unwelcome advances and passed derogatory remarks towards their female colleagues.
According to the complaint lodged by two female executives, the accused managers made inappropriate comments such as, "Madam, aapne khudko bahut maintain rakha hai... aapka figure bahut achcha hai... kya ma'am, mere saath bahar jaane ke baare mai kuch socha ki nahi?" (Madam, you have maintained yourself... your figure is very beautiful... have you thought about going out with me?).
The managers were charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, stalking, and intentional insult to the modesty of a woman.
During the hearing, Additional Session Judge AZ Khan emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stating that the offense committed against the women in the workplace was a serious matter. The judge further noted that custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary, considering the multiple aspects involved in the case.
The court's decision to deny anticipatory bail was based on the need to allow the investigating officer to conduct thorough interrogation, which would ultimately impact the prosecution's case and ensure justice for the complainants.
The accused were represented by Advocate Akshay Shetty, while the State was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor IK Shaikh.
