Delhi High Court Sentences Veer Singh, Max Group Founder's Son, to 3 Months in Jail for Contempt of Court
In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has handed down a three-month sentence of simple imprisonment to Veer Singh, the son of Analjit Singh, founder and chairman of the renowned Max Group conglomerate. The division bench comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal Krishna also directed the local Station House Officer (SHO) to issue arrest warrants against Singh and obtain a Look Out Circular (LOC) against him.
The court ruling came in response to a plea filed by Singh's alleged wife, Kinri Dhir (Singh denies marrying her), seeking contempt of court proceedings against him for willfully disregarding the court's orders. The contention stemmed from Singh's virtual appearance on June 1, 2023, during which he assured the court that he would continue paying maintenance to Dhir and transfer the maintenance amount for May within 24 hours.
Dhir claimed that Singh failed to comply with the court's order, a fact acknowledged by Singh's counsel. However, the counsel argued against the maintainability of the contempt petition. When the court directed Singh to appear physically for the next hearing, his counsel stated that he was currently outside India and unable to attend court proceedings.
Observing Singh's unwillingness to purge the contempt by complying with the court's orders, the bench sentenced him to three months of simple imprisonment. The contempt petition is scheduled for further hearing on July 19.
