Kerala High Court Grants Bail to Woman Accused of Throwing Newborn from Balcony in Kochi

The Kerala High Court granted bail on Monday to a woman accused of throwing her newborn baby from the balcony of her apartment in Kochi's Panampilly Nagar. This tragic incident resulted in the baby's death.

The woman, who gave birth in her bathroom on May 3 without anyone's knowledge, was arrested after passersby discovered a plastic bag containing the deceased infant that morning. Police identified her by scanning the barcode on the plastic bag, which was from an online shopping platform.

Justice CS Dias granted her bail, and a detailed copy of the order is awaited. The 23-year-old woman reportedly told the police she had initially tried to strangle the baby and planned to dispose of the body elsewhere. However, she threw the baby from the balcony when her mother, unaware of the pregnancy and the birth, knocked on the door.

Reports indicate that the woman claimed the pregnancy resulted from rape by a man she had met online. The story will be updated with the order details.
