The senior-most judge of the Calcutta High Court, Justice TS Sivagnanam, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice by the Central government. Since March 31, 2022, Justice Sivagnanam has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court, and he was recommended for the Chief Justice position by the Supreme Court Collegium in February 2022.
Justice Sivagnanam's career began in September 1986 when he started his practice. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Madras High Court on March 31, 2009, and was made permanent on March 29, 2011. After being transferred to the Calcutta High Court in October 2021, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice. Justice Sivagnanam is set to retire on September 15, 2025.
