On May 24, the Central government announced the appointment of Justice S Vaidyanathan as the acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court. Justice Vaidyanathan will assume the position on May 25 following the retirement of the current acting Chief Justice, T Raja. The Department of Justice released a notification on its website confirming the appointment. According to the notification, in accordance with Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President has appointed Justice S. Vaidyanathan, a Judge of the Madras High Court, to assume the responsibilities of the Chief Justice of the High Court from May 25, 2023, upon the retirement of Justice T. Raja, the Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court. Justice Vaidyanathan, born on August 17, 1962, in Coimbatore, started his legal career as an advocate on August 27, 1986. He practiced law before the Madras High Court and was appointed as an additional judge of the Madras High Court on October 25, 2013, and subsequently became a permanent judge on April 14, 2015.
