Justice S Muralidhar Calls for National Judicial Security Data Policy to Restrict Use of Live-Streaming Clips with Captions

Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, S Muralidhar, has called for the implementation of a National Judicial Security Data policy to safeguard the personal information of litigants and ensure secure access to such data. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Neutral Citation for the Indian Judiciary and National Conference on Digitization in Orissa, Justice Muralidhar highlighted the need to restrict the use of live-streaming clips with captions, which he said could undermine the integrity of the judicial process. He also expressed concern about the continued use of Gmail by some sectors of the judiciary, which he said posed a security risk.

In his speech, Justice Muralidhar emphasized the importance of self-reliance in the judiciary's efforts towards digitization. He stressed the need to develop indigenous resources and reduce dependence on external agencies. He also pointed out that the lack of uniform internet connectivity and the absence of internet access in some parts of the country, particularly in the northeast, were major challenges that needed to be addressed.

Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, has stressed the need to integrate technology with the judiciary to improve accessibility and efficiency. Speaking at the Neutral Citation for the Indian Judiciary and National Conference on Digitization in Orissa, he commended Chief Justice Muralidhar's efforts towards digitization and emphasized his own focus on making technology accessible to citizens.

The CJI also highlighted his vision for paperless, virtual courts and the introduction of cloud streaming. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the interface of live streaming with social media and the need for a centralized cloud infrastructure to address them. He further emphasized the need for new hardware in courts to enable seamless integration of technology.

Expressing concern over the potential misuse of live-streaming clips on social media, the CJI called for measures to control their dissemination. He urged the judiciary to prioritize the serious nature of court proceedings over humorous or trivial aspects that may be highlighted in such clips.
