The Executive Committee of the Awadh (Oudh) Bar Association of the Allahabad High Court has made the decision not to hold a felicitation ceremony in honor of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, who was recently transferred to the Kerala High Court.
An emergency meeting was convened by the association on July 16, presided over by President Anand Mani Tripathi and supervised by General Secretary Manoj Kumar Mishra, to discuss the possibility of organizing a felicitation ceremony as per the customary practice for a judge's transfer.
During the meeting, the office bearers and executive members of the Bar Association expressed their concerns regarding Justice Singh's conduct towards lawyers, citing instances of disrespectful behavior during his tenure as a judge. They pointed out that Justice Singh had used offensive language, which had negatively impacted the reputation of the Awadh Bar Association.
In light of these concerns, the resolution passed during the meeting stated that if a full bench meeting is called by the High Court to honor Justice DK Singh, the members of the Bar Association would boycott the event as a form of protest.
"The executive unanimously decides that the Awadh Bar Association will not organize a felicitation ceremony for Honorable Justice Mr. DK Singh. If the High Court organizes a full bench meeting in honor of Honorable Justice Shri DK Singh, then the members of the Avadh Bar Association will not attend the full bench meeting, protesting against it," the resolution stated.
On July 12, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the transfer of Justice Singh to the Kerala High Court. Despite his request to either continue at his parent High Court or be transferred to a neighboring state of his choice, the Collegium chose to transfer him to the Kerala High Court.
