Former Karnataka Law Minister Raises Concerns Over Judges Sharing Dais with DK Shivakumar

Former Karnataka Law Minister, Suresh Kumar S, has raised objections to the participation of Supreme Court Justice AS Bopanna, Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale, and Karnataka High Court Justice K. Somashekar on the same platform as Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The judges are scheduled to engage in discussions with the Congress leader during the State Level Advocates' Conference, an event organized by the Karnataka State Bar Council and the Mysore Bar Association, set to take place on August 12. Kumar took to social media to express his concerns, citing past instances where those sharing the stage with judges were questioned about any pending legal cases against them. He pointed out that Shivakumar is currently facing cases before both the High Court and the Supreme Court, raising the question of propriety in his participation alongside the esteemed judiciary members. Suresh Kumar, who served as Karnataka's Minister of Law & Parliamentary Affairs from 2008 to 2013, later assumed responsibilities as the Minister of Labour and the Minister of Primary & Secondary Education in the state. Recently, the Supreme Court dismissed the CBI's appeal challenging a Karnataka High Court order that temporarily halted a probe into a disproportionate assets case involving DK Shivakumar. The Supreme Court clarified that the High Court's order was interim in nature. In addition to Shivakumar, the event will see the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Law Minister HK Patil, and Manan Kumar Mishra, the Chairman of the Bar Council of India.
