"Wrestlers Antim Panghal and Sujeet Kalkal Challenge Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat's Direct Entry into Asian Games; Delhi High Court Demands WFI's Immediate Response"
Justice Subramonium Prasad of the Delhi High Court has taken up the case filed by wrestlers Antim Panghal and Sujeet Kalkal, who are challenging the direct entry of Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat into this year's Asian Games. The court has directed the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to submit its response on the matter on the same day. The hearing for the case is scheduled for tomorrow.
Panghal and Kalkal's petition contests the exemption granted to Punia and Phogat from participating in the trials for the Asian Games. The sporting event, originally slated to be held between September 10 and 25, 2022, in Hangzhou, China, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is now set to take place from September 23 to October 8.
