The Delhi High Court has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to clarify whether it obtained consent from the Chhattisgarh government to investigate cases in the State. The request came during the hearing of a plea filed by former IAS officer Babulal Agrawal, who was arrested on corruption charges in a case registered against him in 2010 when he was the health secretary with the Chhattisgarh government. Agrawal's counsel argued that the CBI did not have the power to investigate the case since Chhattisgarh had not granted its consent. However, the CBI claimed that it had received general consensus from the Chhattisgarh government in a letter dated February 3, 2001. The matter will now be heard on August 28, and the court has directed the CBI to file a response and clarify the situation.
