Delhi High Court Rejects PIL Challenging Delhi University VC Appointment Based on News Reports
The Delhi High Court, headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition that questioned the appointment of Professor Yogesh Singh as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi (DU). The plea, filed by the organization Forum of Indian Legists, alleged that Singh's appointment violated rules. The Court rejected the plea, stating that it was solely based on news reports, emphasizing that "newspaper reports are not Bhagwad Gita." Furthermore, the Court warned the petitioner of potential consequences for making reckless allegations against the President of India, who was involved in the matter. Despite the petitioner's request to withdraw the petition, the Court refused and imposed costs, ultimately dismissing the PIL.
