The Delhi High Court has directed the Bar Council of India (BCI) to consider announcing a pre-set schedule or time-table in advance for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) for the convenience of the large number of candidates who appear for the examination. Justice Prathiba M Singh observed that candidates have to make arrangements to be physically present for the examination and therefore, an annual time table or schedule would be helpful. The order was passed while dealing with a petition filed by a lawyer named Nishant Khatri who had approached the court stating that the delay in conducting the AIBE may hinder his practice as a lawyer. In response, the court directed the BCI to consider announcing at least the months in which the examination is likely to be held. The BCI had earlier informed the court that fixing a pre-set schedule would require consultation with various stakeholders from across the country. The court disposed of the plea with the above directions to the BCI.
