"Delhi Court Enjoins Times Now Navbharat from Airings 'Operation Paap' Alleging Connection Between AAP MLA Naresh Balyan and Criminal Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu
In a significant legal development, a Delhi court has issued a restraining order against news channel Times Now Navbharat, preventing the dissemination of their show titled 'Sarji ka vidhayak Gangster ka Sahayak' as part of 'Operation Paap.' The contentious show, aired on August 17, purportedly featured an audio clip suggesting a conversation between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan and notorious gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu, wherein extortion plans were allegedly being discussed.
Promptly responding to the broadcast, Naresh Balyan took legal recourse by filing a suit, contending that the authenticity of the audio content had not been properly verified and that its airing was causing irreparable harm to his reputation. Balyan further revealed that he had already lodged complaints with law enforcement agencies, citing threats from Kapil Sangwan.
After a thorough examination of the case, Judge Ajay Kumar Malik of the Dwarka court issued a directive, restraining M/s Times Now Navbharat/Times Group Media Channel from further broadcasting, telecasting, or printing the contentious news, statements, or opinions under the banner of 'operation PAAP' targeting the plaintiff, until the matter is reevaluated at the next hearing.
The court also initiated summons on the lawsuit and issued notices pertaining to the interim relief application. The case has been scheduled for further deliberation the subsequent day (Friday).
During the subsequent hearing on Friday, the court extended the interim order's validity until August 23.
Advocates Balbir Singh Jakhar, NC Sharma, Jai Singh Yadav, Vikram Singh Jakhar, and Karamvir Tyagi presented Naresh Balyan's case in court.
