Chhattisgarh High Court Commences Live-Streaming of Proceedings on YouTube
In a significant stride towards enhanced transparency and accessibility, the Chhattisgarh High Court has embarked on live-streaming its court proceedings on YouTube. Starting this Wednesday, courtrooms 1, 3, and 5 witnessed live coverage of today's legal proceedings, a pioneering move by the court itself.
The Chhattisgarh High Court now joins a rapidly growing roster of High Courts across the country that have adopted the practice of live-streaming their proceedings. Notably, the Gujarat High Court was at the forefront of this trend, introducing live-streaming on its YouTube channel back in October 2020.
Subsequently, other High Courts, including those of Kerala, Karnataka, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Patna, Jharkhand, and Calcutta, followed suit by embracing similar measures. These collective decisions were rooted in the pursuit of transparency and the desire to grant wider accessibility to court hearings.
Not to be left behind, even the Supreme Court of India has embraced live-streaming, albeit within certain constraints. It has made Constitution Bench hearings accessible to the public through its YouTube channel, contributing to a more open and informed legal process.
