"Four Judicial Officers Appointed as Additional Judges of Madras High Court by Union Ministry of Law"
In a significant development, the Union Ministry of Law has officially appointed four judicial officers as additional judges of the esteemed Madras High Court. The newly appointed judges are R Sakthivel, P Dhanabal, Chinnaswamy Kumarappan, and K Rajasekar.
This decision comes after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended their appointments through a resolution issued on March 21. The Collegium had previously recommended the appointment of advocate Ramaswamy Neelakandan and reasserted the appointment of R John Sathyan to the Madras High Court in a resolution dated January 17.
The Collegium urged the government to promptly notify the appointments of Neelakandan and Sathyan, emphasizing that delaying the process could disrupt the seniority order. However, the government's clearance for their appointments is still pending.
Currently, the Madras High Court operates with 61 judges, despite its sanctioned strength of 75, resulting in a vacancy of 14 positions as of May 1.
