A minor survivor of human trafficking and rape is set to receive ₹7 lakh in compensation from the West Bengal government, following an order from the Calcutta High Court. The survivor had been trafficked from Kolkata to Maharashtra's Pune district, where she was forced into prostitution before being rescued by police. The District Legal Services Authority had initially offered her ₹1.5 lakh for both rape and trafficking, under the West Bengal victim compensation scheme, but she sought a higher amount under the National Legal Services Authority compensation scheme. The Court ordered the State to pay the survivor the full compensation within seven days, after it was informed that the survivor had yet to receive the funds.
