Bombay High Court Denies Trishul Media Interim Relief for VFX Credits in Movie Adipurush

"Bombay High Court Rejects Interim Relief for Trishul Media in Adipurush VFX Credits Dispute

In a recent development, the Bombay High Court has denied interim relief to Trishul Media Entertainment, a prominent VFX studio. The studio had put forth a claim for credits in the much-anticipated multi-lingual film, Adipurush.

Justice RI Chagla, a single judge presiding over the case, declined the interim plea after thoroughly considering arguments presented by both parties.

Trishul had previously informed the court on June 16 that it would not seek an urgent stay on the film's release. The studio had entered into VFX studio agreements with the film's producer, Retrophiles Private Limited.

Following the movie's theatrical release, Trishul filed another interim application before the High Court, requesting individual credits for its employees who had contributed to the project. Trishul contended that these individuals should be acknowledged as "authors" and thus deserve proper credit.

On the other hand, Retrophiles and T-series contended that the lawsuit brought forth by Trishul was on behalf of the company, not its employees acting in a representative capacity. They argued for the dismissal of the suit based on this premise, reiterating that the company had already been credited in the film.

After extensive hearings involving both parties, Justice Chagla rejected the plea for interim relief.

A comprehensive order from the court is anticipated, detailing the reasons for this decision.

Trishul's application also encompassed a request for the payment of dues amounting to ₹4,77,31,321, encompassing damages suffered by the VFX company.

In the filed application, legal representatives Gandhar Raikar and Sanket Singh noted concerns that Retrophiles Private Limited might have been established solely for the film's production and might be dissolved following the film's release.

During negotiations related to outstanding payments, Retrophiles allegedly declined to provide any credits to Trishul. The studio had previously expressed apprehensions about its ability to assert its rights and recover outstanding dues once the film had been released.

The court granted Retrophiles a stipulated period to address Trishul's claim regarding outstanding payments.

T-series received legal counsel from Ameet Naik, Madhu Gadodia, and Deepak Deshmukh of Anand & Naik."
