Advocate Arun Kumar's appointment as a judge of the Allahabad High Court has received a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. According to a resolution dated May 9, the recommendation was initially made by the Allahabad High Court Collegium on September 2, 2022. However, it was deferred by the Collegium due to an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report. The IB was asked to provide specific material on the basis of which it arrived at its conclusion. The recommendation was considered by the Supreme Court Collegium again on January 17, 2023, after which the appointment was recommended. The candidate has over 25 years of experience practicing at the Bar and has conducted a wide range of cases before the High Court in constitution, civil and revenue jurisdiction. Three consultee-judges positively opined on the suitability of the candidate, while the Chief Minister and Governor of the State of Uttar Pradesh concurred with the recommendation. The Collegium concluded that the candidate is eminently fit and suitable for the appointment as a judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.
