Aditya Thackeray has approached the Bombay High Court, seeking its intervention in a public interest litigation (PIL) that calls for his arrest in connection with the deaths of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his former manager Disha Salian.
As a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Thackeray has requested permission from the High Court to intervene in the PIL, ensuring that he is given an opportunity to present his case before any orders are passed.
Thackeray, through his advocate Rahul Arote, has argued in his intervention application that the PIL is not maintainable, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is already conducting an investigation into Rajput's case.
He has also highlighted that since the Supreme Court is already seized of the matter, the High Court does not have the authority to issue any orders.
The PIL, in which Thackeray seeks to intervene, was filed in June of this year and is yet to be heard. It seeks directions for the CBI to conduct a custodial interrogation of Thackeray and submit a comprehensive probe report to the High Court.
Additionally, the plea urges the High Court to instruct the State's legal officers to initiate contempt proceedings against the concerned CBI officials who allegedly disregarded specific directions from the Supreme Court in a related case.
