In a recent development, a woman accused of pilfering bags, laptops, and iPads from the premises of Delhi High Court has been denied bail by a Delhi court on Sunday. Duty Metropolitan Magistrate Paras Dalal, presiding over the proceedings at the Patiala House Court, deemed the allegations against the accused, Bala Saraswati, to be of a grave nature. As a result, he ordered her to be held in judicial custody until August 26.
The decision was driven by the court's consideration of the gravity of the accusations, with apprehensions raised by the Investigating Officer (IO) further influencing the ruling. The court expressed concerns that if released on bail, Saraswati might flee or even resort to intimidating witnesses or engaging in similar criminal activities using the same modus operandi.
Central to the court's judgment was the analysis of CCTV footage capturing Saraswati involved in one of the incidents, wherein she was observed leaving with a bag. The court dismissed Saraswati's assertion that the individual depicted in the footage was not her, bolstering the case against her.
The series of events unfolded on July 10, when a law intern's bag placed outside a courtroom went missing. The stolen bag contained both a laptop and an iPad. During the proceedings, it emerged that Saraswati is a suspect in at least one other analogous case, raising suspicions of her involvement in additional such incidents. The police underlined her uncooperative behavior and failure to cooperate with the investigation, which further weighed against her.
Representing the state's interests, Advocate Praveen Kumar played a pivotal role in the courtroom proceedings. Meanwhile, Advocates Prabhav Ralli and Stuti appeared on behalf of the complainant, offering their perspectives on the matter. Advocate Abhishek represented the accused Saraswati during the legal proceedings.
