On Friday, the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, disclosed that there is an emerging pattern wherein female judges are surpassing their male counterparts in terms of numbers within the lower courts throughout the nation.
The speaker referenced a particular instance concerning a lower division court in Maharashtra, wherein there are presently a collective of 75 judges, with 42 of them being female. Today, the entirety of the aforementioned 75 judges convened within courtroom number 1 of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice of India (CJI) underscored that the alteration in the gender distribution among subordinate judges is indicative of circumstances and decisions that transpired fifteen years ago. "The appointments we are currently making serve as a manifestation of events that occurred fifteen years ago, and we must choose from the available pool. Amongst the candidates, two possess doctorate degrees, while others have backgrounds in gymnastics or are skilled Warli artists," he further stated.
