Supreme Court Upholds Conviction in Asim Akhtar Case, Reduces Sentence

In the case of Asim Akhtar vs. The State of West Bengal & Anr., Criminal Appeal No. of 2024 (emerging out of SLP (Crl.) No. 12292 of 2022), the Supreme Court checked on the legitimateness of Akhtar's conviction under charges related to extortion and conspiracy. Asim Akhtar had requested against the choice of the lower courts, which found him guilty of offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections related to cheating and criminal scheme.
