The release of the movie "The Kerala Story" has been challenged in court by six different petitions claiming that the film promotes a fake narrative and an agenda of right-wing organizations, which could lead to hatred against the Muslim community. However, on May 5, the Kerala High Court refused to stay the film's release, stating that it did not contain anything against Islam or Muslims as a whole but was about terrorist organization ISIS. The court further added that none of the petitioners had actually watched the movie and that it did not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole.
The film, which revolves around a group of women from Kerala who join ISIS, was released on May 5 and has been met with criticism from several quarters, including the ruling CPI(M) and opposition Congress party in Kerala. Despite the backlash, the court noted that petitions against movies like "The Kerala Story" would only give them unnecessary publicity.
Several courts across the country, including the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court, have also been approached with petitions seeking a ban on the movie. However, they have refused to interfere with its release or pass any orders for urgent listing of the case before the Kerala High Court.
