"Supreme Court Notices Delhi Police in Amanatullah Khan's Appeal Against 'Bad Character' Listing"
The Supreme Court has taken up the appeal filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amanatullah Khan challenging the decision of the Delhi Police to designate him as a 'bad character' and initiate a 'history sheet' against him. In the ongoing legal battle, Khan, who serves as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Delhi, moved the appeal after the Delhi High Court upheld the police's decision. Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta, constituting the Bench, issued a notice to the Delhi Police and requested their response. Khan's appeal pertains to a Delhi High Court order issued in January. In an effort to invalidate the history sheet, Khan had approached the High Court, claiming that its issuance violated the Punjab Police Rules. However, on January 19, 2023, the High Court dismissed his plea, with Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain stating that the authorities had adhered to the prescribed rules based on the available records.
