"MNLU Nagpur Faculty Express Concern Over Partial Salary Disbursement, Urge Immediate Action

Twenty three faculty members of the Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur have written to Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijender Kumar expressing concern over partial disbursement of salaries for January 2024On January 24, the Registrar of MNLU Nagpur issued a circular informing faculty members and non-teaching staff that they would receive only half the salary owed for January due to "financial constraints in the University".In their letter written to the Vice-Chancellor, the faculty members have highlighted the financial strain and uncertainty caused by the unexpected shortfall.The letter underlines that the faculty members rely on timely and complete salary payments to support their families and maintain financial stability."The partial disbursement of salaries for January has disrupted this stability and caused significant inconvenience," it adds.The faculty members have urged the Vice-Chancellor to address this issue urgently by ensuring the full disbursement of the remaining January 2024 salaries without further delay. They have also called for the implementation of measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.Additionally, another 17-page letter purportedly sent to the General Council of the University has alleged a myriad of issues plaguing the institution. These encompass discrepancies in appointments, service conditions and the regularization of services within the teaching cadre.Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding favouritism and discrimination in academic decision-making processes. Arbitrary policies, hostel conditions, construction and facility issues, among others, have also been cited as problems.The letter also highlights a hunger strike carried out by the students last year to protest against the attendance policy at the University.The Vice-Chancellor was unavailable for comment at the time of publication of this story.
