Two officials of the Kerala High Court were suspended on Friday for staging a play that allegedly had derogatory content against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government.The play, which was staged at the High Court on the occasion of Republic Day, led to a complaint alleging that it was insulting to the Indian government and the country.The two officials suspended are Assistant Registrar Sudhish TA and Court Keeper (Higher Grade) Sudheesh PM.An order issued by the High Court informing of the decision stated that they were being suspended pending an inquiry and disciplinary action in view of the “derogatory content and criticism against the Government in the stage show performed at the High Court auditorium during the Republic Day celebrations, 2024.”Kerala High Court Chief Justice AJ Desai ordered the suspension upon a reference of the matter, and the suspension was issued with immediate effect.The suspended officials will be paid a subsistence allowance and other allowances admissible under the rules during the period of suspension.
The Chief Justice has also ordered the Registrar (Vigilance) to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report, whereas the Registrar (Administration) has been directed to furnish an explanation on the incident (staging of the play).
