High-Level Committee Led by PM Modi, CJI Chandrachud, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Discusses Next Lokpal Appointment

As per the report, the decision was made following a meeting held on Wednesday by a high-level committee consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Former Attorney General of India KK Venugopal also attended the meeting, in which names shortlisted for the appointment of the next Lokpal were reportedly discussed.

The Lokpal was established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013. The Lokpal is tasked with inquiring and investigating allegations of corruption against public functionaries falling within the scope and ambit of the Lokpal Act.

Former Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty currently serves as the Acting Chairperson of the Lokpal. He was appointed a judicial member of the Lokpal in 2019 and was made the Acting Chairperson in May 2022.
