High Court allows Karnataka Rajyotsava at Idgah Maidan.

The Karnataka High Court has approved Chamarajpet Nagarikar Okkuta's request to conduct the Karnataka Rajyotsava event at Chamarajpet playground (Idgah Maidan ground) from November 1 to November 3.

A division bench consisting of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Krishna S Dixit has resolved the organization's petition with their observations.

"The petitioner organization should ensure that it issues appropriate directives to its members, preventing any actions that may jeopardize communal harmony or disrupt law and order in the city."

The organization had sought court intervention after their request to celebrate on the ground was rejected by the authorities.

Advocate Shridhar Prabhu clarified that the organization is not insisting on a combined celebration of Karnataka Rajyotsava and Annamma Devi Utsav. Their primary goal in approaching the authorities was to commemorate Karnataka Rajyotsava, which falls on November 1, along with additional activities spanning from November 1, 2023, to November 3, 2023.

Apart from Karnataka Rajyotsava, multiple cultural events are planned for each day. The organization aims to foster unity and secularism by inviting participation from all segments of society and religions, thus enhancing the broader celebration of Karnataka Rajyotsava.

Their objective includes offering a platform for young talent to exhibit their skills through cultural events.

Therefore, the argument made is that the representation should be considered solely as a request to hold Karnataka Rajyotsava at Chamarajpet Playing ground. The events will be restricted to cultural activities, and other activities like flag hoisting will only involve the state flag, with no other flags permitted.

The government advocate stated that the venue, Idigah Maidan in Chamarajpet, holds specific religious attributes, and there are orders from both this court and the apex court directing the preservation of its religious nature and characteristics.

It was argued that the state authorities are actively reviewing all such requests. If the petitioner organization limits its activities to celebrating Karnataka Rajyotsava and conducting cultural events from November 1, 2023, to November 3, 2023, the district administration and other pertinent authorities will grant permission for the organization to use the venue solely for these specified purposes.
