The Madras High Court on April 10, 2024 declined bail to K. Agoram, BJP's Mayiladuthurai district president. Agoram and six others are accused of attempting to extort money from Dharmapuram Aadheenam Sri La Sri Masilamani Swamy by purportedly possessing explicit videos and audio clips associated with the Mutt.On February 25, 2024, the Mayiladuthurai police registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on a complaint filed by Viruthagiri, the brother of Mutt head Masilamani Swamy, with the district Superintendent of Police.The police registered the FIR under Sections 307 (attempted murder), 323 (causing hurt), 389 (extortion by putting in fear), 506 part II (criminal intimidation), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.On March 15, 2024, a special police team apprehended Agoram in Mumbai and subsequently he was sent to judicial custody.The complainant alleged that two persons serving in the Mutt collaborated to intimidate him. Allegedly, they claimed to possess explicit audio and video materials involving the Mutt head and threatened to release them on social media. The complainant claimed that the threat was issued at the instance of Agoram, advocate Jayachandran of Seiyur and educationist Kodiyarasu
