Central Bureau of Investigation Takes Over Cases on Request of Manipur Government

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed two separate Charge-sheets in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (M), Guwahati (Assam) against five accused in two inter-related cases of Manipur Violence.

CBI had registered the case on 23.08.2023 on the request of Govt. of Manipur and had taken over investigation of FIR No.584(7)2023 dated 08.07.2023, earlier registered at Police Station, Imphal on complaint against one minor boy. It was alleged that complainant’s minor daughter was missing since 06.07.2023 and was kidnapped by said minor boy with an intention to marry her without her consent.On the other hand, the father of the said boy had also got registered an FIR in Lamphel Police Station, District Imphal West vide No.1009(7)2023 dated 19.07.2023 against unknown persons alleging that his son, aged about 17 years, left his house on his bike in the morning of 06.07.2023 and since then he had not turned up. It was further alleged that he might have been kidnapped. On the request of Govt. of Manipur, CBI also took over the investigation of this case on 23.08.2023.The investigation of both the inter-related cases (arising out of same facts) revealed that in the morning of 06.07.2023, the boy went to the tuition class of minor girl and picked her up on his bike as a pillion rider and proceeded towards Bishnupur side & from there to Thas View Point Area on old Cachar Road. At that spot, the boy & girl were intercepted and held captive by the accused who forcibly put the victims (boy & girl) in a vehicle. They were taken to an undisclosed location and later on, were suspectedly killed. Four accused persons were arrested during the investigation and are presently in judicial custody.CBI has filed charge-sheets in both the cases against the five accused. Further investigation is continuing.Public is reminded that above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
