The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday informed the Calcutta High Court that in the course of its probe into the school jobs for cash scam, it has attached at least eight properties of Leaps & Bounds Pvt. Ltd., a company linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee.Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Dhiraj Trivedi told single-judge Justice Amrita Sinha that the ED has attached properties of Leaps & Bounds, worth ₹ 7.5 crore.
"We have attached around eight properties of Leaps & Bounds company, which we apprehend are proceeds of crimes. These are worth ₹ 7.5 crores," he said.
The DSG added that certain documents given by Abhishek Banerjee to the ED have been scrutinised as well."We have issued summons to persons, whose names cropped up during our probe and have recorded their statements. So, I can say, we have made a considerable progress in the probe," Trivedi submitted. Further, Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Billwadal Bhattacharyya, who represented the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), submitted a report stating that the corruption in the recruitment scam was huge.
"Perusal of our report would show that the corruption is hanging like an albatross around the entire process of recruitment. The report would further show how corruption is converted into a form of art," the DSG highlighted. The bench said it would hear the matter again on Wednesday (today), after it peruses the reports of both the CBI and the ED.It has also ordered the ED's regional joint director to be present, virtually, on Wednesday.
