The Calcutta High Court on Thursday refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged role of Trinamool Congress MP Afrin Ali alias Aparupa Poddar in the School Jobs for Cash Scam [Tarunjyoti Tewari vs Union of India]. A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Supratim Bhattacharya said it would not permit multiplicity of litigation as the scam case is already being dealt by a division bench led by Justice Debangsu Basak."The matter is already being dealt with by a division bench so why to file a separate petition? Why to encourage multiplicity? We do not want inconsistent orders from two coordinate benches. You claim to have material against the private respondent Afrin Ali, please place it before the concerned division bench," Chief Justice Sivagnanam said. The bench added, "We cannot entertain this PIL. Please move the division bench and seek intervention there."As per the PIL petitioner, the TMC MP Afrin Ali from Arambagh constituency, had allegedly recommended names of four persons to be recruited as teachers of primary schools.
