Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain Grover have approached the Delhi High Court challenging the Look Out Circulars (LOC) issued against them.Justice Subramonium Prasad heard the matter today and adjourned the case to May 8 after noting that the investigation in the case is at a nascent stage.It is too hot in the day for this Court to intervene now. Wait for some time. They [Delhi Police] will take some time to investigate. We will have it in May. By that time, your friends may be back. They may also make amends," Justice Prasad remarked.The Court also noted that the Grovers' plea challenging the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) FIR is also pending before the High Court.
Justice Prasad, however, added that Grovers' plea to travel abroad for two days may be considered by the concerned authorities. Advocate Giriraj Subramanium appeared for Grovers and argued that they have cooperated with the investigation and there are multiple proceedings against them.The LOC was issued against Grovers at the instance of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police which is probing allegations of fraud levelled by fintech firm BharatPe.Ashneer Grover is the co-founder and former Managing Director of BharatPe. Madhuri Jain Grover was the company’s head of operations.They left the company in early 2022. In December 2022, BharatPe lodged a complaint against the couple and in May 2023, the Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing registered an FIR against them.BharatPe has alleged a fraud of nearly ₹81 crores.
Police have invoked provisions of Indian Penal Code related to cheating, criminal breach of trust as well as forgery and criminal conspiracy in its FIR.
